The Morpheus Hotel is located in Cotai City, Macau, and is the third phase project of the City of Dreams. With luxurious hotel facilities and comprehensive supporting service facilities, it has become the only seven star hotel in Macau.
The Morpheus Hotel was designed by the late architect Zaha Hadid. Zaha is an Iraqi British female architect and one of the most famous modern architects. She won the Pritzker Prize for Architecture in 2004. Zaha's team has designed numerous impressive works in China, including Beijing Galaxy CBD, Beijing Daxing Airport, Guangzhou Grand Theatre, and more.
Zaha Hadid's works have distinct personal characteristics. She is very skilled at creating irregular shapes through geometric configurations, breaking through the inherent conventions of traditional architectural design. Especially in the use of curves, her imaginative design gives her works a strong visual impact.
Zaha has once again made an extremely bold breakthrough in the design of the Morpheus Hotel. The hotel itself is a 160 meter high twin tower building with a connecting corridor in the middle. Zaha Hadid uses complex curves to "liquefy" the architecture, making it full of "fluidity" and forming a free architectural form, similar to extraterrestrial architecture. The complex steel frame outside the hotel constitutes the hotel's support system, breaking through the framework limitations of traditional architecture. This free-form exoskeleton structure design is the world's first, and under the rendering of lighting, the building has a futuristic visual effect.
Thanks to the "exoskeleton" design, the interior space of the hotel has achieved a column free design, and the 35 meter high hotel lobby is transparent and magnificent. Each room adopts an open design, maximizing the utilization of natural light. The glass curtain wall on the hotel facade not only has good insulation and sound insulation effects, but also adjusts the indoor temperature according to changes in light, greatly enhancing the comfort of the hotel and improving energy efficiency.
The Morpheus Hotel took a total of 6 years to build and was fully completed and opened to the public in 2018. Unfortunately, Zaha Hadid passed away due to illness in 2016 and did not witness the completion of the hotel with her own eyes.
As an important masterpiece of Zaha Hadid, the Morpheus Hotel continues her consistent design style: flowing lines, bold geometric forms, and a combination of futuristic and artistic elements. This building is not only a culmination of Zaha Hadid's design philosophy, but also a perfect tribute to her architectural career.
